Informed Childbirth Education - $225

Our 18-hour evidence-based classes provide preparation for natural childbirth while cultivating acceptance of all outcomes. They present a woman and family centered approach that emphasizes informed decision making and nurturing yourselves and your baby for the best possible start.

We recognize that confidence and relaxation are the determining factors in being able to meet the challenges of childbirth.  By replacing the unknown with knowledge, fear and tension can be lessened and replaced with calm focus. In our classes we help you learn to center yourself with your slow, deep breathing, as well as discover your own methods to help meet the intensity, spontaneity and challenges of labor.  Having the ability to communicate your needs to your support person/team, as well as to your care providers, are also keys to proactively giving birth.

I chose to certify through ICEA (International Childbirth Educators Assoc) because they do not encourage a rigid curriculum. There are elements of Bradley, Lamaze and Hypnobirthing which enrich our informed childbirth class. Like a traditional "prepared childbirth" class it goes over pregnancy concerns (like nutrition and body mechanics), variations on the normal stages of labor, and potential interventions and medications, however it is taught from an informed consumer perspective. You are given the evidence-based information that you need to make your own decisions about your labor and birth experience. We also do focused relaxation and talk about learning to use your own breath to ease tension and relax muscles.

Our classes are 1/3 practical knowledge, 1/3 theory and 1/3 skills you can use to enhance your coping abilities during labor and birth. There is also lots of time for asking questions and socializing with the other couples.

Class size is limited so early registration is recommended. Register in the 2nd trimester for a class that will end two to six weeks before your "due date".

Comfort Measures - $50

A two+ hour workshop focused entirely on comfort measures and coping techniques for couples to utilize during labor and birth. Co-taught with an instructor from Informed Birth Choices. We will introduce and practice a wide variety of techniques - find what works for you! This hands-on workshop will increase your confidence by introducing you and your partner to:
  • Massage
  • Counter-pressure
  • Acupressure for labor augmentation and pain relief
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Breathing techniques
  • Positions and how to make them work for your labor
  • Ways to cope with back labor
  • How to use a birth ball in labor
  • Specific techniques for partners
A great way to build upon and strengthen what you have learned in your childbirth class or as a refresher for experienced parents.* Class size is limited and almost always fills up, so register early!

*This course specifically covers comfort in labor and is not meant to substitute for a complete childbirth class.

Infant Care - $50

This class focuses on the “fourth trimester”, the first three months of a baby’s life. The course will focus on newborn care, including newborn procedures, feeding, sleeping, infant communication, diapering and dressing.

The class also includes self-care techniques for parents to help with the bumps in early parenting. A fun and worthwhile three hours!

Breastfeeding- $50

Introduction to breastfeeding for new or experienced parents. We will cover frequently requested information - latching and positioning, how to tell baby is getting enough, frequency and duration of nursing, pumping tips and more.

In addition, we will discuss setting and reaching your breastfeeding goals and will leave plenty of time for answering your questions. Partners are strongly encouraged to attend. Start your breastfeeding relationship with confidence!

Infant CPR - $50

Based on the American Heart Association's Friends and Family (non-certification) curriculum. This class covers all the critical skills: CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), choking skills including Foreign Body Airway Obstruction, and various other injury prevention topics. Each participant will be practicing CPR techniques on infant mannequins. Hands-on practice is essential to provide you with the skills and confidence to turn a life-threatening situation into a lifesaving one. Appropriate for parents and caregivers of babies from birth to one year and recommended to be taken prenatally.

Private Classes - $60 per hour

Private, individualized sessions in your home for those who cannot or would prefer not to attend a group session. The classes can be tailored to meet your needs - childbirth education with or without comfort measures, infant care, and/or breastfeeding. Minimum of 2 hours.

Arrangements can also be made for private infant CPR classes.
